There is something about the energy of New York that hits you like a lightning bolt when you walk the streets, one reason why it is one of my favourite foreign cities.
Day One
On the Air India non-stop to New York. I took the flight from Bombay nearly three years ago when it first started but have never tried the Delhi version. In fact, it is the perfect way to get to NY.
We board at 12.30 am. I have a snack, read for a couple of hours and then go to bed. Our route takes us near the North Pole and then down to North America over Canada till we land at JFK. Various international surveys list Udaipur as the top destination in India. But it’s a city most Indians haven’t been to. Isn’t it time we discovered the great hotels and destinations that our own country has to offer?
Early this year, Tourism Queensland ran a campaign titled ‘The Best Job in the World’. They were looking for a caretaker for the islands of the Great Barrier Reef – one of the most beautiful places in the world. The campaign received such a response that the official website crashed on the first day itself. And after a gruelling contest between 16 shortlisted possible caretakers (including one from Bangalore), Britisher Ben Southall landed The Best Job in the World.
Youngsters have a fetish for accessories and they like dressing up their cars with whatever is the latest in the market. Car accessories start from high-end music systems, halogen lamps, rally driving seats, car graphics, 5.1 channel digital sound system, multi-coloured cabinet lamps and plenty of other things.
For many of us, a car is just like a baby — adored and pampered. It saves us from the mercy of swindling autowallahs and overcrowded buses, and relieves us from the need to ‘watch’ your watch every now and then if stuck at a late-night party.
Imagine the beauty of Venice and the glamour of Las Vegas rolled in one and that too, in Asia. It’s not just any figment of your imagination, but the real world of Macau. Situated on the China coast, it’s a city with two faces.
