April 30, 2009 by Guest Authors

Body Jewelry has become very popular these days, wearing jewelry is no longer the sole pastime of a woman but now men equally enjoy styling themselves with beautiful jewelry pieces. But sometimes it is not possible for you to go for valuable and expensive jewelry made of precious metals like platinum or gold.

Body jewelry, better known as fashion or costume jewelry, is made of low-priced metals like silver or titanium, glass or plastic. This kind of jewelry is available with gold polish and with the use of semi precious stones like beads, diamonds, kundan etc, to give an exquisite look. This kind of cheap body jewelry is especially targeted to the college crowd.

So the concept of cheap body jewelry gives the freedom and opportunity for a not-so-rich class of society to decorate them with body jewelry. Pearls being a part of body jewelry comes in various shapes and sizes and there is a large selection of pearl available on the market at varying prices.

One of the most expensive and valuable pearl is the natural variety that is formed without any human interference. Because they are so rare, they are considered antique jewels when discovered. The majority of pearls available in the market are cultured pearls.

Freshwater cultured pearls are cultivated in freshwater and grown in mussels. Saltwater pearls require a lot of time for harvesting, and it may take over two years to get a quality pearls. They are available in a variety of colors such as white, cream, yellow, gold, silver, rose and black.

Keshi pearls are tiny pearls of uneven sizes and are usually formed out of debris that enters the oyster when it is opened during the harvesting process. Australian sea pearl is considered the rarest and finest cultured pearl in the world. Other varieties include South sea pearls, Chinese freshwater pearls, Akoya pearls, Mabe pearls and Tahitian pearls.
